What is tuổi mụ (Vietnamese traditional age)?
Tuổi mụ counts a baby as one year old at birth and adds a year at each Lunar New Year, not on the birthday. It is still used in Vietnam for weddings, ceremonies and fortune-telling. This tool calculates it as the current lunar year minus the lunar birth year, plus one.
Why is my zodiac animal different from what I expected?
The zodiac follows the lunar year, which starts at Tết (late January to mid-February). If you were born in January or early February, you may belong to the previous year's animal.
Is the Vietnamese zodiac different from the Chinese zodiac?
The years are the same, but Vietnam has the Cat instead of the Rabbit, and the Ox is usually called the Buffalo.
What about a birthday on 29 February?
In years without 29 February, the tool counts the birthday on 1 March.
